The Color of My Dreams Mittens

$95.00

These mittens were pieced together from a lagoon shaped quilt I made in 2021 titled “The Color of My Dreams.” At the time I wrote:

“I imagined a quilt made for the sleeping mind of someone who longs to look up at the sky from the ocean floor, for the dreamer who swims in a cerulean abyss. Fitting an entire sea into the rectangular frame of a quilt seemed inconceivable because the very essence of the ocean lies in its vastness. The architecture of a swimming pool, on the other hand, is a fitting shape for a quilt about aquatic dreams. Pools and dreams are both seemingly finite containers. Water is contained in a pool just as meaning and emotion are contained in dreams. However, when we awaken, the imagery, experience and mood of our dreams often stay with us, coloring the rest of our day. They permeate our waking lives just as there is water in every breath we take.”

Three years later, this quilt spoke to me, and it said it was time for a shape shift. Out of that exchange, this wearable art was born.

FEATURES:

  • Soft & warm: Four layers of fabric (quilted top, cotton batting, cotton backing, thick fleece lining.

  • Fit: elastic spans inner wrist to keep mitten snug.

  • Eye catching: adds spark to the most minimal of cold weather outfits.

  • Diverse fabrics: Original cyanotypes (made from underwater self-portraits and imagery of my eyes and water) merge with silver metallic synthetics.

  • SIZE: Medium

Measure around your palm (on your dominant hand). Then measure the length of your hand from your longest fingertip to the base of your hand. You should now have two measurements. Choose the larger measurement and round it up to the closest half number (e.g., 6¼” to 6½ or 7¾” to 8). Use this number and check the sizing info below to see which size mitten will likely fit you best.

S: ≤ 7”

M: 7.5–8”

L: ≥ 8.5”

GARMENT MEASUREMENTS: 10” in length, 5” wide

Note: Depending on how your body reacts to cold, these mittens are recommended for use on brisk fall or spring days and during a milder winter (read: you may need something more extreme for a cold Chicago day).

Never flawless, always singular.

CARE: Handwash & lay flat to dry.
